Blissful Run (Pacific City - Oregon)

I don’t think that there is anything more blissful than running on a Beach early in the Morning. If you get up early enough you have a blank canvas to run, and a peace that you can rarely find in today’s world of the hustle and bustle that we all live in. There is just something about the salty air and sound of crashing waves on open sand in the early morning. Normally the first thing I do is load up my IPod with the latest music or podcast that I am listening to…Stop the first thing I do is generously apply Body Glide, but not when I am running on the beach. The IPod gets left at home. Thursday morning I got up before everyone else and walked down to the beach. The first thing you notice about Pacific City Beach is just how picturesque it is. The beach is lined with sand dunes covered with long green sea grass about waist high. Once you crest the dune it's impossible not to notice the enormous rock formation called "The Haystack" jutting out of the pacific about a half mile off the beach. I just stood there for a minute and thought to myself, this is straight out of a scenic landscape print. Right there and then I knew that this was going to be a run to always remember. About a mile into the run I noticed a purple Star Fish on the sand just out of reach of the surf. This was a first for me, out of all the beach runs I have done I have never come across a Star Fish. At first I thought of bringing it home with me because the kids would love to see it, but then the story of "Saving Souls - One At a Time" came to mind. If you are not familiar with the story the premise is even if you can't save all the star fish it will matter a great deal to the ones you do save. This train of thought was the start of an introspective nine mile jog.
Being that we came to Pacific City to be with the Anderson's, a family that I helped baptizes on my mission. My thoughts turned to the awsome experiences I had with them while on my mission. They are a special family and I will charish my relationship with them for the rest of my life.
Along the beach I found a couple Sand Dollars to bring back to the kids. OK, I am a big kid and can't resist a Sand Dollar. Especially one that hasn't been decimated by seagulls!
The last highlight was a pack of about fifty seals at the mouth of the river fishing and sun bathing. They were not as excited to see me as I was to see them.
